Лессинг Готхольд Эфраим (1729-1809), писатель, просветитель, теоретик театра. Программным документом немецкой эстетики эпохи Просвещения стал трактат "Лаокоон, или о границах живописи и поэзии". Реформировал немецкую драматургию – отверг требование единства времени, места действия, оставив только единство основного действия (серия статей "Гамбургская драматургия"). Как публицист требовал открытого общественного обсуждения религиозных истин. Автор первой в Германии бюргерской трагедии ("Мисс Сара Сэмпсон"), комедии "Минна фон Барнхельм" (о событиях Семилетней войны), трагедии "Эмилия Галотти". Драматическое стихотворение "Натан Мудрый", в котором был представлен образец гармоничного устройства общества. Драма была запрещена к постановке при жизни автора. Автор поучительных басен. Музей в г.
